SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -Saratoga Springs is celebrating the end of 2023 with their New Year's Fest. Three days of entertainment are coming together as the biggest New Year's party north of Times Square according to the city's chamber of commerce."We've seen an increase in business all week. Being right in the heart of Saratoga, right across from the fireworks is huge," said Owner of Whitman Brewing, Kathy Crager. ST. LOUIS - A homeless man charged with burglarizing a St. Louis nursing home that closed without notice is supposed to be on a GPS ankle monitor, but he failed to get the device installed, according to records.Multiple court records reveal that St. Louis Associate Circuit Court Judge Rochelle Woodiest ordered Dawon Hicks, 44, to wear a GPS ankle monitor on Dec. 19. Records show Hicks was released as a family relative because he's homeless. Police: St. Louis woman Marquisha Williams found deceased in Illinois Northview Village Nursing Home closed earlier this month. A probable cause statement states that St. Louis police found Hicks on Dec. 18 walking out of the building with two handsaws. ST. LOUIS -- The police are searching for a suspect in a domestic abuse incident. Martez Hopgood, 21, is suspected of domestic assault, kidnapping, and violation of a protection order involving an ex-girlfriend and her 10-year-old son. Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 911.A St. Louis woman and her child, reportedly held hostage by her ex-boyfriend, sought help door to door in the middle of the night. Doorbell footage captured the moment when a good Samaritan opened the door, allowing the woman and child to escape the pursuing ex-boyfriend. The incident is under investigation. Police are searching for more victims after a man was arrested for child sex abuse in Southern California.The suspect was identified as James Donnelly, 60, by the San Bernardino Police Department. The investigation began on Oct. 25 when a victim reported Donnelly had sexually assaulted her. Authorities later discovered two more victims, both male and female, who had also accused the suspect of sexual abuse.The victims were around 10 years old when the abuse started. The abuse continued for another seven years, police said.On Dec. 23, Donnelly was arrested at a SoCal fairground where he was working to set up a New Year’s Eve festival.Over the past 30 years, Donnelly has worked for traveling carnivals that visited multiple states including California, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Colorado. SAN LEANDRO — A 69-year-old man has been charged with sexually assault of a patient at the San Leandro hospital, which police say occurred when the defendant was working there as a nurse.Merlin Pineda was charged with one count of sexual battery by restraint and one count of sexual battery of an institutionalized victim, both related to the alleged May 2022 incident involving the same woman. Pineda is out of custody while the case is pending, and pleaded not guilty on Dec. 28, court records show.According to police, Pineda touched the woman’s genitals after going into her room to give her an injection, and later made lewd comments about wanting to personally give her an anal suppository. Later, when the woman was being discharged, Pineda allegedly hugged her and touched her breasts and told her he would miss her.The woman reported the incident to police. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Three San Francisco firefighters were injured after two San Francisco Fire Department vehicles were involved in a crash on Friday, the fire department confirmed. The firefighters all have moderate injuries and are expected to recover. The crash happened while the fire department was responding to a "reported fire incident" at California Street and Lyon Street just before 3 p.m., SFFD said. The SFFD vehicles involved were Engine 10 and Truck 10. Three parked cars were damaged, SFFD said. When reached, the fire department would not confirm if other cars were involved. (KRON) -- A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a train in Menlo Park on Friday, Caltrain confirmed to KRON4. The crash happened at about 6:22 p.m. near the Menlo Park station. Northbound train #711 was involved in the crash. Both tracks were held as emergency personnel was at the scene. There were 31 passengers aboard the train, Caltrain said. None of them were injured. The California State Parks Department announced Thursday that it would be giving six counties $41.9 million for new parks and renovations of existing ones.
