MADISON COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44) - UPDATE: A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in the recent cattle mutilations within the Madison, Brazos and Robertson Counties. The Animal Legal Defense Fund is the nation’s preeminent legal advocacy organization for animals. They say this reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for killing and mutilating of six cows. Ranchers found a six-year-old longhorn-cross cow with their tongue completely removed by a “straight, clean cut, with apparent precision” along the jawline - where the cow’s face was exposed. The cow was lying on its side, dead on the ranchers’ property. The Animal Legal Defense Fund says scavenging animals did not touch the cow’s body - which decayed for several weeks before its discovery. This was originally reported to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, which led to the discovery of five additional cows - four adults and one yearling. SAN FRANCISCO — In 1981, there was “Fernandomania” as Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Fernando Valenzuela captured the imagination of baseball fans everywhere and drew crowds both at home and on the road. The year 1976 belonged to Mark “The Bird” Fidrych, of the Detroit Tigers, who like Valenzuela came out of nowhere to become a national phenomenon. Before both of them was Vida Blue, who in 1971 became a national celebrity at age 21 for the Athletics.Blue passed away Saturday night at age 73.Giants play-by-play broadcaster Jon Miller had a unique vantage point, seeing Blue in the stands as a teenager growing up in Hayward and later as a fledgling announcer. In 1974, Miller was on the A’s broadcast team. Blue was 17-15, coming off a 20-win season.“The A’s got bigger crowds at the Coliseum when he pitched and they sold out the ballpark all over the league,” Miller said Sunday before the Giants closed out a three-game series against t...Kurtenbach: There’s more than a playoff series on the line — Warriors vs. Lakers is about bragging rights

The Golden State Warriors have many rivals. That’s the price of greatness on the court. But off the court, Warriors fans have two arch-nemeses, and in recent years, they have ganged up to form a juggernaut of insufferableness.I’m speaking, of course, about Lakers fans and LeBron James fans. And now that LeBron and the Lakers are up 2-1 in the teams’ Western Conference Semifinals series, it’s time for the Warriors players to help out the Warriors in the stands and pull this series even.Because if the Warriors were to lose this series, it could very well mean the end of the Dubs Dynasty and the ushering in of a new era in San Francisco. But more importantly: if the Warriors lose, the fans of the blue and gold — and I don’t think I’m exaggerating — would never hear the end of it.We can’t have that. The Bay has taken enough hits lately.Related ArticlesGolden State Warriors | Kurtenbach: After an embarrassing Game 3 loss to the Lakers, it...From MLB pitcher to shuttle-bus driver: El Cerrito’s Les Cain has a story to tell

The driver of the shuttle van at the Honda dealership is Les Cain, El Cerrito’s Les Cain, the guy who was said to throw a fastball harder than anybody for the Detroit Tigers back in 1968, before shoulder problems ended his career at age 24 with 3-1/2 seasons of service time, a half-season short of qualifying for a full pension at retirement. So here he sits, a steering wheel in hand — 51 years since throwing his last pitch in the big leagues, 26 years after his wife, Vera, died of lung cancer, and 16 years after his daughter, Leslie, died of liver cancer — taking his morning commute across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge to a job that pays him a modest wage and keeps him busy.Cain had a tough road as one of MLB’s pioneering Black players. But at age 75, he has few regrets and a story to tell.“I wanted to end up having a good ending to my story,” he said. “The fact is, it’s been a good ending from the beginning.”(Ray Chavez/Bay Area News Group) A four...Latest news
