A vote on President Joe Biden’s choice to run the Federal Aviation Administration was delayed indefinitely Wednesday in the face of an opposition blitz by Republicans, who say the nominee lacks enough experience in aviation to lead the agency, which is under pressure to stem a surge in dangerous close calls between planes.The Senate Commerce Committee was scheduled to vote on Denver International Airport CEO Phil Washington, whose nomination has languished since Biden announced his choice last July.Committee Chair Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., said the vote would be delayed to gather information requested by senators. A possible tornado touched down in Montebello on Wednesday, damaging several buildings and leaving a trail of destruction.The "weather incident" was reported a few minutes before 11:30 a.m., according to the Verdugo Fire Communications Center. KTLA helicopter video showed the storm ripped-off parts of a roof and scattered debris in the area of South Vail Street and Washington Boulevard.The National Weather Service dispatched a team to Montebello, a city eight miles east of downtown Los Angeles, to assess the damage and determine if it was, in fact, a weak tornado.A video submitted by a KTLA viewer shows what appears to be a funnel cloud descending from the clouds as a storm moved through the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Pomona man charged after allegedly sexually assaulting child

A Pomona man was arrested and charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a child, officials said Wednesday.Daniel Garcia, 32, was arrested after he “expressed a desire to meet with the juvenile a second time,” Pomona police detailed in a news release. “Garcia arrived at the prearranged meeting location and was taken into custody.”Garcia was later booked on suspicion of oral copulation with a person under 16, sodomy with a person under 16 and lewd acts on a child under 14.Police are seeking the public’s help find possible additional victims. Anyone who has information about Garcia, or believes they may have been victimized by him, is asked to call the Pomona Police Department at 909-622-1241.

OAKLAND — A year after he was acquitted of allegations of sex trafficking from 2019, a Bay Area man avoided additional jail time for trafficking a minor who came to Oakland from Kentucky in 2006, court records show.Chase McMillon, 39, was sentenced Feb. 28 to time served, meaning he won’t go back to prison or jail for a conviction of sex trafficking a minor. McMillon pleaded guilty in October 2022 to trafficking a 15-year-old girl back in 2006, allegations that surfaced while authorities were investigating him for alleged sex trafficking in 2019, in Salinas.It is a bizarre case that was litigated for years, and resulted in McMillon spending roughly 18 months behind bars awaiting trial, before he was released in April 2022. McMillon was indicted in 2020 on charges of trafficking a woman in Salinas through threats and fisticuffs, but the case fell apart.
