The Denver Post to co-host a mayor’s race runoff debate between Kelly Brough and Mike Johnston

The Denver Post will co-host a debate between Kelly Brough and Mike Johnston on Tuesday evening as the days tick down to June 6 when one of those two hopefuls will be named the city’s first mayor in a dozen years.The Post is partnering with Denver 7, Denverite and Colorado Public Radio for the hour-long event that starts at 6 p.m. Viewers can watch a live stream on Denverpost.com or tune in on television on Denver 7.Ballots in the runoff stage of the race were sent out starting May 15. The stakes are high for a city facing many challenges, including skyrocketing housing costs, widespread homelessness and rising crime.Both Brough and Johnston have made bold promises around those issues. Southbound 405 Freeway reopens after fatal multi-car crash

All southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway were closed for hours in the Westwood area Monday morning due to a multi-vehicle crash that left at least one person dead.Officials said the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. near Sunset Boulevard and involved four to five cars. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.The crash near Sunset Boulevard closed all southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway. May 22, 2023. Man crashes car after being shot while driving in Gardena

A man is dead after he was shot and crashed his car into parked vehicles in Gardena Sunday night, officials said.At a few minutes before 11 p.m., the unidentified man was driving his white Toyota Corolla by some people standing along the street in the 14800 block of Chadron Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. At least one person in the group opened fire at the Corolla, striking the driver multiple times in the chest, officials said. The car then "crashed into several parked vehicles" in the 14700 block of the street, the release said.The driver was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Investigators said they believe the shots came from a group of four or five people, though no information about the suspects or the motive for the attack was available.

Southbound Hwy 101 reopened following deadly crash in Sunnyvale

(KRON) -- Three people were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on northbound Highway 101 in Sunnyvale early Monday morning, according to the San Jose California Highway Patrol office. (BCN) -- Palo Alto Mayor Lydia Kou stumbled into politics accidentally as an active member of her community--now she wants to run for higher office. Kou declared her candidacy for state Assembly on Monday. She will run against incumbent Marc Berman who represents District 23, which includes Mountain View, Palo Alto, most of Menlo Park, Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, Saratoga and Campbell. Her focus is on ending the state's housing crisis through short-term transitional housing and long-term affordable housing with supportive services for drug addiction and mental health. California has the largest homeless population in the nation with more than 171,000 people, according to the Annual Homeless Assessment to Congress.
