It’s not always good to be the king.Spain’s monarch, Felipe VI, usually lives a life of discreet luxury in the Zarzuela Palace on the outskirts of Madrid — occasionally deviating from his routine to inaugurate events, go skiing, or attend international sporting competitions. But Spain’s fragmented political landscape is obliging the king to interrupt his schedule with growing regularity and to act as a neutral arbiter in an increasingly polarized country. On Monday, the monarch will find himself at the center of national attention as he meets with the leaders of the political groups with representation in the Spanish parliament before deciding who he will nominate to be the next prime minister. That mission may sound simple, but after last month’s inconclusive national election, none of the party leaders has secured the simple majority of votes needed to form a government, and that means the king will have to make a choice between the two leading candidates.Cons...Daniel Vogelbach’s grand slam secures Mets’ series victory over Cardinals

The Mets have suddenly come alive. The hot swinging Amazin’s leaned on the long ball Saturday night in St. Louis to defeat the Cardinals 12-3.With the Mets leading 3-1, Daniel Vogelbach launched a grand slam in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Vogelbach’s slam was his 10th of the season as the rest of his teammates joined in on the home run party.DJ Stewart added a solo shot in the fourth — his fourth in his past four games — and Pete Alonso crushed a two-run shot in the seventh for good measure to cap off the Mets’ homerun party. While the Amazin’s provided plenty of run support, it wasn’t exactly necessary with Kodai Senga on the hill in dominant form. The right-hander tossed seven innings allowing one run on just two hits while striking out five. The 30-year-old lowered his season ERA to 3.19 as his sensational rookie season remains one of the few bright spots on the season.Francisco Lindor cleared the bases in the 9th on an ...State of emergency declared by CA governor as Hurricane Hilary approaches

There wasn’t a ton of buzz heading into the preseason game between the Vikings and Tennessee Titans on Saturday night at U.S. Bank Stadium. The resale market pretty much spoke for itself as fans could get into building for less than $20 on StubHub.Frankly, it made sense considering the Vikings rested pretty much every starter on the roster, something head coach Kevin O’Connell has been known to do since taking over in Minnesota. As a result, the home crowd lacked energy throughout, and the Vikings ultimately fell 24-16 to the Titans. The loudest cheer of the night might’ve been when the video board alerted the fan base that star quarterback Kirk Cousins was celebrating his 35th birthday. The biggest thing the preseason game provided was a chance for young players like rookie quarterback Jaren Hall to gain more experience. After struggling in the preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks last week, Hall was better against the Titans. He completed 4 of 7 pass attempt...Sixth inning pivotal in Twins’ loss to Pirates
