San Jose: Two arrested after clothing store robbery and police chase crash

SAN JOSE — A man and woman were arrested Monday evening after a violent episode that involved a store robbery with a fake gun, the assault of a police officer, and a brief chase that ended in a multi-car wreck in East San Jose, authorities said.The sequence began to unfold at 5:43 p.m., when San Jose police officers were called to a clothing store in the 3000 block of Story Road after a store clerk reported that someone brandished a gun inside the business, and stole merchandise, according to a police news release.Relying on a description given at the store, police say officers spotted a suspicious car about a mile away near Clayton Road and Harvest Drive, and conducted a traffic stop. UNION CITY — A person was shot here Tuesday morning, police said.Police said the victim suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. San Jose PD reveals what triggered police chase Monday

(KRON) -- A San Jose police chase that ended with a major collision on Capitol Expressway was initially trigger Monday when an officer was attacked with a box cutter, investigators said. Two suspects were arrested in the incident, the San Jose Police Department said. Officers responded around 5:43 p.m. Monday to the 3000 block of Story Road on a report of someone brandishing a gun at a store clerk.The suspect left the store with stolen merchandise prior to the police arriving. Officers located a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle's description, police said. A man and a woman were inside. (KRON) -- When Taylor Swift steps on stage at Levi's Stadium in front of thousands of fans this July, she won't just be a pop music superstar. She will also be the mayor of Santa Clara. On July 28 and 29, Swift's tour will light up Levi's Stadium and the city will be renamed "Swiftie Clara" in her honor.A proclamation written Tuesday by Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor states, "By virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor, and on behalf of the Santa Clara City Council, (I) do hereby proclaim Taylor Swift as honorary Mayor for the period of Friday, July 28, 2023 to Saturday July 29, 2023, and the name of the City shall be changed for ceremonial purposes only to Swiftie Clara." Man injured in Tenderloin shooting Tuesday

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- One person was shot and a suspect or suspects remain at large following an apparent shooting in San Francisco's Tenderloin District, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Officers responded shortly before 1 p.m. to Golden Gate and Leavenworth regarding a shooting. Pennsylvania prosecutor asks the state to take over the probe into a homicide suspect’s jail escape

(AP) — A county prosecutor in Pennsylvania said Tuesday that he has asked the state attorney general’s office to take over the investigation surrounding a homicide suspect’s escape because of the possibility that jail staff might be charged with criminal negligence.Warren County District Attorney Rob Greene said reports from the Warren city police investigation included information that “could possibly implicate” inmates and staff at the county jail as well as others in the July 6 escape of Michael Burham, 34.
