BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Right-wing populist Javier Milei said Sunday that Argentina’s situation is “critical” and he promised to do “drastic” changes once he takes over the presidency of the third-largest economy in Latin America.“Argentina’s situation is critical. The changes our country needs are drastic. There is no room for gradualism, no room for lukewarm measures,” Milei told supporters that chanted “president, president” and “liberty, liberty” when the right-wing populist took the stage.He also said that the “reconstruction of Argentina begins today.”With 97.6% of votes tallied in Sunday’s presidential runoff vote, Milei had 55.8% and Economy Minister Sergio Massa 44.2%, according to Argentina’s electoral authority. Police investigating after elderly pedestrian struck in Arlington

Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Arlington on Sunday afternoon.Officers responding to a report of a pedestrian struck on Wollaston Avenue around 1:45 p.m. Arlington found an 81-year-old woman who had been struck while crossing Park Avenue in a crosswalk, according to police.She was transported by Arlington Fire/EMS to an area hospital for further treatment of injuries.The driver, a 79-year-old Arlington woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with an ongoing investigation. The work week will start of dry and chilly, but a storm system is expected to move in this week that could affect holiday travel.Conditions on Monday and Tuesday are expected to be seasonably cool with sunshine. Late Tuesday afternoon clouds start moving in, with rain and even some wintry precipitation to follow. Some places in northern Worcester County & Southern New Hampshire could see accumulating snow Tuesday evening, especially for higher elevations, while the rest of Southern New England sees rain. Although some spots will start with snow, eventually all locations are expected to change back to rain by sunrise Wednesday. The worst part of the storm is expected to move through at this time, with winds gusts up to 50mph and heavy rain. Poll: Massachusetts parents report stark disparities in post-secondary planning knowledge across race and income

Massachusetts parents from different racial, income and education backgrounds have widely disparate information on resources and opportunities when it comes to higher education, according to a new MassINC poll.“As state policymakers work to expand and improve postsecondary pathways for students, we must acknowledge and address the fact that there remain significant gaps in parental expectations and awareness of these pathways, especially among parents who identify as Latino/a/x and low-income,” said Jennie Williamson, director of The Education Trust in Massachusetts.The poll, which was conducted by MassINC and released by the Education Trust in Massachusetts, surveyed a sample of 1,018 Massachusetts parents with students in grades 6 through 12 over the fall. Superintendent Skipper says exam school admissions changes are being ‘actively looked at’

After months of back and forth between parents, BPS officials and school committee members, Superintendent Mary Skipper said the district is actively looking into “incremental” changes to alter the controversial policy at Wednesday night’s school committee meeting.“The Chair, Vice Chair and yourself have been clear that you would like us to look for a change, be it incremental,” Skipper answered Committee member Brandon Cardet-Hernandez’s inquiry into next steps for the exam school admissions. “And so the team is actively doing that.”The exam school admissions policy alterations kicked off for the 2023-24 school year, implementing complex changes aiming to increase diversity and opportunity within the schools. Man in 40s arrested after 12-year-old girl sexually assaulted on TTC bus in Scarborough

A Toronto man is facing charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a girl on a TTC bus in Scarborough last week.Officers were called to the area of Pharmacy Avenue and Finch Avenue East around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday for reports of an assault.Toronto police allege a 12-year-old girl got onto a TTC bus in the area and was sexaully assaulted by a man on board as she walked past him.Police have arrested 42-year-old Celestino Liscio, of Toronto, and charged him with sexual interference and sexual assault.He is scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom in January.

Three days ago, he was spotted near the Sauk Centre airport, and the more recent sightings indicate he remains in the area.He’s been given names ranging from Rut to Bullwinkle. Prolonged drought still bringing trouble for lower Mississippi River
