Senate votes to end COVID-19 national emergency

The Senate on Wednesday passed a GOP-led resolution that would end the COVID-19 national emergency that has been in place since 2020.The measure passed the upper chamber 68-23.A similar resolution sponsored by Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) passed the Senate last year, but it did not advance in the Democrat-controlled House. This year it passed the House 229-197, with 11 Democrats joining all Republicans.President Biden last year threatened to veto the measure. This year, he did not threaten a veto but issued a statement of administration principles before the House vote objecting to the resolution.On Wednesday, however, he said he would sign the measure.“The President strongly opposes HJ Res 7, and the administration is planning to wind down the COVID national emergency and public health emergency on May 11. Video from a Colorado Springs officer’s body-worn camera and additional information on a police shooting was released Wednesday.In the early morning hours of March 13 officers responded to the 1000 block of North Foote Avenue on a report of a woman screaming and domestic violence, said Commander Tish Olszewski, in a Significant Event Briefing video.“The video contains graphic descriptions and footage that may be disturbing to some individuals,” police said. “Viewer discretion is advised.”The suspect, 52-year-old Jose Aponte, was hiding in an attic space cluttered with furniture, boxes and other items. Residents and council members in Newport Beach are pushing back against the growing trend of “fractional ownership” that's taking over the city.Locals say the practice is turning luxury homes into timeshares and party houses, potentially transforming the community into a resort town.Fractional home ownership is the practice where ownership of a home is split among multiple parties, typically anywhere from 4 to 12 owners on average, according to Newport Beach city officials. The arrangement is most common for vacation homes.With this arrangement, the amount of time spent at the home is based on the fraction or percentage of ownership. Oakland Cane's dining room closed due to car break-ins in parking lot

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- Diners at Raising Cane's in Oakland are unable to use the dining room due to crime around the business, the restaurant confirmed. The beloved fast-food chicken shop opened on July 14, drawing people from across the Bay Area to Oakland. By October, its dining room was closed. Oakland A’s ballpark ranked worst in U.S. "Customer and Crewmember safety is always our top priority. After several car break-ins in our parking lot, as well as numerous other robberies in the neighborhood, we proactively made the decision to close our dining room and operate our business through the drive thru only," Cane's said in a statement to KRON4.The outdoor dining area of the restaurant is also closed.
