AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Today was the first day this month with high temperatures below normal. Men’s basketball: CU Buffs run away from No. 15 Miami

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Colorado finally put it together outside the CU Events Center. And the result was a huge nonconference victory for the Buffaloes.CU used a balanced attack and dominated the second half, running away from No. 15 Miami for a 90-63 win in the NABC Brooklyn Showcase at the Barclays Center.The Buffs (7-2) led by just one point at halftime, but CU began what turned into a 19-4 run with nine consecutive points to pick up the first win away from home this season.CU played shorthanded, as standout freshman Cody Williams was sidelined due to a wrist injury. But six Buffs players recorded double-figure points, led by 22 points from Tristan da Silva and 20 from KJ Simpson. Da Silva flirted with a triple-double, also finishing with 10 rebounds and a career-high nine assists.The Buffs outscored Miami 53-27 in the second half. SAN FRANCISCO — Devin Haney beat Regis Prograis by unanimous decision in his division debut to win the WBC super welterweight title in his hometown on Saturday night.Haney (31-0) remained unbeaten with a slow but dominant victory over Prograis in front of a sellout crowd at Chase Center in San Francisco, home of the Golden State Warriors.All three judges scored the bout 120-107 in Haney’s favor. Lydia Ko delivers big moment to win mixed team event with Jason Day

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — Lydia Ko hit a fairway metal to 8 feet to set up the birdie she and Jason Day needed to win the Grant Thornton Invitational on Sunday. They closed with a 6-under 66 in modified fourballs to capture the first mixed-team event in 24 years.Playing the par-5 17th hole, Ko and Day were tied with the Canadian duo of Corey Conners and Brooke Henderson, who had to settle for two closing pars and a 63.The format allowed for both players to hit tee shots, then switch to the other player’s golf ball and finish out the hole. Day was in a bunker left of the green at the par-5 17th, no easy up-and-down. Ko had 208 into a slight wind and her fairway metal never left its target.“That is so nice,” Day said as Ko’s shot was in the air. It landed near the hole and rolled out about 8 feet. Catholic priest in Nebraska dies after attack in church

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A Catholic priest in a small Nebraska community died Sunday after being attacked in a church rectory, authorities said. The Rev. Stephen Gutgsell was assaulted “during an invasion” of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, the Archdiocese of Omaha said in a Sunday statement.Gutgsell was taken to an Omaha hospital, where he died from his injuries, church officials said. Fort Calhoun, with a population of about 1,000 people, is roughly 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Omaha.Police received a 911 call of an attempted break-in at the church just after 5 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Gutgsell injured and an alleged attacker inside. Authorities took the suspect into custody, Washington County Sheriff Mike Robinson said in a statement. “This is an ongoing investigation, and the name of the suspect or manner of death will not be released,” Robinson said.
