A Santa Ana mall employee fought off two thieves as they attempted to get away with more than $2,700 worth of merchandise last month, and the altercation was caught on video. The incident occurred on June 26, when two men walked into a store in the MainPlace mall. The suspects apparently selected multiple items and ran out of the store without paying, according to Santa Ana police.The employee chased after the men and fought both of them until they dropped the items and ran away and into a parking lot, surveillance video released by police shows.Video shared with Santa Ana police shows a mall employee fight off two thieves on June 26, 2023. 1 dead after DUI driver runs red light in San Jose, police say

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- Within the past 72 hours, multiple deadly collisions have unfolded on San Jose roadways. At 1:11 a.m. Thursday, two men were ejected from their Scion sedan after they were struck by an SUV, the San Jose Police Department said. One of the men suffered fatal injuries and died at a hospital. The second man remains hospitalized in critical condition. Witnesses told police that the Nissan SUV driver ran a red light. The SUV driver was arrested on suspicion of felony Driving Under the Influence and vehicular manslaughter. SJPD investigators wrote, "A 2006 Nissan SUV, occupied by an adult male driver, was travelling westbound on Capitol Expressway through the intersection at Snell Avenue when it struck a 2006 Scion sedan. RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian researchers say the number of violent deaths last year reached the lowest level in more than a decade, puzzling some experts because there has been an explosion of firearms circulating in the country in recent years.About 47,500 people were slain in Latin America’s largest nation in 2022, said a report Thursday by the Brazilian Forum on Public Safety, an independent group that tracks crimes. Its statistics are widely used as a benchmark because there are no official statistics on a national level. While the number of killings in 2022 was down 2.4% from the previous year, it remained roughly even with levels recorded since 2019.
