Drivers planning to travel on Interstate 95 late Thursday night will encounter southbound lane closures and a detour at State Road 836.The highway will be closed southbound starting at 11:45 p.m.Crews need to close SR 836 so they can move a crane across the interstate.They plan to be done by 5:30 a.m. on Friday.

MDPD hosts graduation ceremony for 35 new officers

It’s graduation day for a new group of Miami-Dade Police officers who are ready to protect and serve.The department on Thursday swore-in 35 officers at the Fire Tower Miami in Doral.The new members completed 39 weeks of academic, physical and practical training.They were instructed in areas of patrol procedures, criminal law, firearms training and crisis intervention.

A Florida appeals court has opened the door for the possible release of transcripts of the grand jury investigation into notorious sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein nearly 20 years ago that ended with prosecutors negotiating a plea deal that critics have called questionably lenient.Florida’s Fourth District Court of Appeals unanimously agreed that Circuit Judge Donald W. Hafele had erred when he ruled he had no authority to release the normally secret transcripts of the 2006 Palm Beach County proceedings. The court cited a state law provision that says grand jury records can be made public if that is a “furtherance of justice.”The court in Wednesday’s decision ordered Hafele to review the transcripts and to release those he deems would further justice, redacting the names of victims, witnesses and those who have not been criminally charged. Crews put out garbage truck fire in Fort Lauderdale

A garbage truck went up in flames in Fort Lauderdale.Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the fire along Northeast 26th Street, west of Federal Highway, Thursday afternoon.Officials said the flames sparked in the load of the truck and damaged the hydraulic system, which prevented it from being able to dump its trash.Video provided by FLFR showed firefighters dousing the flames from a crane and on the ground.No one was hurt.

A Burlington firefighter who also used to run a dog training facility is now facing possible prison time after customers said their dogs were abused at “Falco K9” in South Boston.After a recent move by prosecutors to charge Tyler Falconer, 30, in this case, 7NEWS spoke with Lindsay Foster, whose dog is one of the animals cited in charging documents. “He could barely pick his head up because he was so hungry and so exhausted,” she said. “He looked at me and was like ‘Oh mom, thank you, thank you’ but he was almost scared to get up.”Foster said she brought her 5-month-old Rhodesian ridgeback named “Watch” to get “house trained” at Falconer’s kennel in February.
