Hurricane Lee on track to swipe parts of New England with gusty winds, power outages and high surf

(CNN) — Hurricane Lee, an enormous Category 1 storm whipping strong winds across hundreds of miles, is inching closer to New England and expected to impact the region Friday evening into Saturday.Lee is so huge that its tropical-storm-force winds (between 39 and 74 mph) extend more than 300 miles from the center – well outside the National Hurricane Center’s forecast cone, which indicates where the center could track.Though Lee is not expected to make landfall in New England, the storm’s heavy rain could trigger isolated inland flooding, high surf could cause coastal flooding, and powerful wind gusts could knock out electricity.“We’re going to start to see those direct impacts start to move into portions of southeastern New England as early as later this afternoon, this evening, and then spread northward up into Maine overnight tonight and into Saturday,” National Hurricane Center Director Michael Brennan said Friday.“The big story with Lee is just that it’s a large h...

Duxbury mother accused of killing her three children indicted on murder, strangulation charges

A Duxbury mother accused of killing her three children in January has been indicted on multiple charges, the Plymouth County DA announced.A grand jury charged 32-year-old Lindsay Clancy with three counts each of murder and strangulation on Friday. Clancy reportedly attempted suicide on Jan. 24 at her home at 47 Summer Street, and first responders found her three children in the basement with severe trauma.Prosecutors said Clancy strangled her children with exercise bands while her husband was out picking up dinner. According to court documents, her husband found her injured outside on the ground after investigators said she jumped from a window.The 5-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy died of asphyxia, and the eight-month old boy died a few days later at the hospital of complication of asphyxia.Clancy is currently held without bail and is being treated as a medical facility. She is scheduled to appear in Plymouth Superior Court at a later date.

Lee brings rain, wind and coastal flooding Saturday

Hurricane Lee continues its northward journey. The center of the storm will continue to stay offshore. The Mid/Outer Cape and Nantucket will experience the biggest impacts from the storm, while inland there will be less of an impact. This will be a 12-hour storm with timing from midnight to midday tomorrow.As of the latest 5 pm update, Lee is still a category 1 storm. The center is about 290 miles southeast of Nantucket. The storm has picked up forward speed. Over the next 24 hours, it will continue to weaken and veer toward Nova Scotia. The center of the storm stays well to our east, but the impacts will reach Southern New England.We saw thickening cloud cover today from Lee. Rain arrives for Cape Cod and Nantucket tonight. Rain continues overnight there and along the coast as the western edge of the storm backs in across southern New England. Rain favors the Cape and Nantucket through the morning. Family files lawsuit after police fatally shot New Mexico man while at wrong address

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The family of a man shot and killed by police in New Mexico after they responded to the wrong address is suing the city and three officers. The lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court alleges Robert Dotson and his family were deprived of their civil rights when the officers in the northwestern New Mexico city of Farmington mistakenly showed up at their home the night of April 5. The officers responded to the wrong address after getting a domestic violence call from a home across the street. The lawsuit contends the officers acted unreasonably that night and created a risk for Dotson and his family. The 52-year-old and his wife were upstairs when they heard what they believed was a knock. Man arrested in multiple sexual assaults at Toronto Osteopathic treatment centre

One man has been arrested in connection with multiple sexual assaults at an Osteopathic treatment centre at Yonge and St. Clair West.Police say they were called the centre on June 23 for reports of a sexual assault.It’s alleged that the accused was the operator of the treatment centre and he’s alleged to have sexually assaulted patients while providing Osteopathic treatment.Robert Morelli, 70, of Toronto has been arrested and charged with three counts of sexual assault.He’s expected to appear in court on Oct. 12.
