Man in his 20s seriously injured in Etobicoke shooting

A man in his 20s suffered non-life threatening injuries following a daytime shooting in Etobicoke. Police were called to the area of Burnhamthorpe Road and The West Mall just before 2 p.m. for reports of gunshots. When they arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. No suspect details have been released at this time and there’s no indication what may have led up to the shooting.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A gunman opened fire Sunday night at a prominent shrine in southern Iran, killing one person and wounding eight others in an attack that followed another assault there months earlier, authorities said. Officials offered no immediate motive for the attack in the city of Shiraz at Shah Cheragh, which draws Shiite pilgrims to its domed mosque and the tomb of a prominent member of the faith from its earliest days. However, Iran has faced attacks in the past from the Sunni extremists of the Islamic State group, who view Shiites as heretics. PLUM, Pa. (AP) — Five people were found dead after a house explosion in western Pennsylvania that destroyed three structures and damaged at least a dozen others, authorities said Sunday.Plum Borough Police Chief Lanny Conley said the bodies of four adults and one adolescent were recovered after the blast shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the borough, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Pittsburgh. “This is certainly a sad, sad day and a sad time, for not just the folks in Plum but all the folks in the community and in this region,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.Of the three people taken to hospitals, two were released while one remained in critical condition, said Steve Imbarlina, deputy director of fire and emergency services for Allegheny County. HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. -- An individual was shot in Highland Park Sunday afternoon, police said. According to Highland Park police, an individual was shot in the 2300 block of Green Bay Road and was transported to the hospital. Police have secured the area and individuals are asked to avoid the area for investigation. Man hospitalized after attempted carjacking, shooting in Loop Police reported that this was an isolated incident between two individuals and that the male offender reportedly fled on a bicycle dressed in all black. (The Hill) – Deanne Criswell, the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), described wildfires devastating the island of Maui as a "scene from an apocalyptic movie."Criswell described the aftermath of the Maui wildfires that has left at least 93 people dead as of Sunday morning to CBS reporter Jonathan Vigliotti. The wildfire devastated the historic town of Lahaina last week, leaving hundreds of structures destroyed and many more damaged. Students are going back to school, Halloween decorations are in the stores, and it is almost time to buy your annual hunting and fishing licenses.The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department will being license sales on Tuesday, August 15th. 2023 licenses expire at the end of August.More than 2.7 million licenses are sold each year, according to the state agency. The money raised by those sales goes to conservation efforts and other programs.Along with the annual digital licenses, TPWD is also offering Youth Hunting, Lifetime Hunting and Fishing tags, and the Exempt Angler tag. (NEXSTAR) – Does it feel like a totally different climate when you go across town? It may be the urban heat island effect. The way a city is designed can make hot weather feel even worse. The temperature on your block is influenced by everything from the number of trees on the street to the color of the pavement. When trees and vegetation (which absorb heat) are replaced by buildings and roads (which can radiate heat), it feels hotter. "The heat island effect can result in significant temperature differences between rural and urban areas," explains the Environmental Protection Agency.Climate Central, an organization of scientists and journalists focused on studying the impacts of climate change, broke down 44 cities into Census blocks to determine which neighborhoods suffer from the worst urban heat effects.
