LOWELL — Nick Martinez saved his finest performance for the season’s biggest stage.Martinez scored a game-high 28 points while Malden Catholic’s defense stifled what had been a prolific Mansfield offense as the No. 1 Lancers won their second consecutive Division 2 state title with a 72-54 win over the No. 2 Hornets on Friday night at the Tsongas Center.The win gives Malden Catholic (23-2) coach John Walsh his fifth career state championship with three coming at Danvers High School.“Mansfield’s offense is very difficult to defend. Miami Heat point guard Kyle Lowry has been a steady presence in the starting lineup for nearly his entire career.The veteran had started 677 consecutive games that he was active for, dating back to his rookie season with the Toronto Raptors.But after returning from a knee injury that sidelined him for 15 games, Lowry was forced to adjust to a new role: coming off the bench.“It’s different,” Lowry said Friday. “But right now I’m just trying to help my team win and they just want to kind of ease me back in. HOUSTON (AP) — Tejano musician Fito Olivares, known for songs that were wedding and quinceanera mainstays including the hit “Juana La Cubana,” died Friday. He was 75.The noted saxophonist died in the morning at home in Houston, according to his wife, Griselda Olivares. She said he was diagnosed with cancer last year.Born Rodolfo Olivares in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas on April 19, 1947, Fito Olivares started playing professionally in his teens.
