10 dead, another dozen injured in Australian bus crash

As many as 10 people are dead and at least a dozen more are injured after a bus crashed on the east coast of Australia.According to the New South Wales Police Force, the crash happened late Sunday night when the bus rolled over near a highway in the town of Greta, which is two hours north of Sydney.“Initial inquiries indicate 10 people have died. 11 people were transported to hospital via helicopter and road, and 18 passengers are uninjured,” police said in a brief statement. The 58-year-old driver of the bus was among those injured and taken to hospital. According to investigators he is under police guard pending mandatory testing and assessment. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

CHICAGO — Four people are in the hospital after a shooting that happened near a CTA Red Line Station Sunday afternoon, according to the Chicago Fire Department.Fire officials said an EMS plan one was called around 2:40 p.m. where four people total were taken to various hospitals from 15 West 95th Street.One man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, while two other men were taken to Trinity Hospital in fair condition, according to fire officials.One adult female was taken to Trinity Hospital in good condition as well. 'Unabomber' Ted Kaczynski died by suicide in prison medical center, AP sources say

(WTNH) – A joint settlement of $45 million has been reached in the civil case of Richard Cox v. the City of New Haven, according to New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker.Richard “Randy” Cox was paralyzed while he was being transported in the back of a New Haven police transport van last June. Five officers were charged after failing to intervene when it became apparent he was injured. The five officers pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and cruelty. Two of those officers were terminated by the New Haven Police Commission on Wednesday.All parties in the civil case participated in a settlement conference on Friday, and with the judge's assistance, agreed on a settlement of $45 million to resolve all of the claims against the city, officials said.
