Industry leaders slam bill to ban replacement workers during strikes

MONTREAL — Industry leaders are warning that a bill to ban replacement workers during a strike or lockout could lead to greater disruptions to everything from aviationto package delivery and internet services.Tabled in Parliament on Thursday, the Liberals’ legislation would be applicable to federally regulated sectors such as air travel, ports, banking and telecommunications and fine companies $100,000 a day for each violation. Chicago firefighter, 39, dies after battling fire at restaurant in Lincoln Park

CHICAGO — A Chicago firefighter has died after battling a fire at a restaurant in the city's Lincoln Park neighborhood.The firefighter has been identified as 39-year-old Andrew Price.Fire officials confirmed his death Monday morning, saying "on behalf of the Fire Commisioner, it is my sad duty to report the passing of our member injured this morning at 2430 Lincoln."The fire started around 6 a.m. Monday at Lincoln Station Bar and Grill in the 2400 block of Lincoln Avenue. According to officials, a Mayday call was made while crews were responding to the fire and one firefighter was trapped and had to be rescued. The crew member was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition, where they later died.Price joined the fire department in March 2009. He would have been 40 years old come January. EVANSTON, Ill. — Leaders in Evanston are expected to take a final vote Monday on a proposal to build a new Northwestern football stadium.Northwestern University is proposing to tear down Ryan Field, the 97-year-old stadium that looms over an upscale residential neighborhood, and replace it with a privately funded $800 million facility that the university envisions as a venue for concerts and other events.The university originally requested a zoning amendment allowing for 15 concerts, but in the face of opposition, it dropped that number to six, which authorities told the commission is the minimum number it needs to bring in the revenue to sustain the stadium’s operations. (NEXSTAR) – Maryanne Trump Barry has died, multiple news outlets reported Monday. ABC News reported she was found in her New York City apartment. A cause of death has not yet been released. She was 86 years old. Trump Barry was an older sister of former President Donald Trump. She was a prosecutor before being appointed as a federal judge to the United States Court for the District of New Jersey in 1983. In 1999, she was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.She served as a judge until her retirement in 2019. Toddler in critical condition after drowning incident in NW Indiana

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A toddler is in critical condition after two children were found drowning in a river in Northwest Indiana.According to Indiana police, the incident occurred in the Tippecanoe River in Pulaski County where a one-year-old and five-year-old boy were found struggling in the river behind a home on Stamper Drive around 10:50 a.m. Chicago firefighter critically injured after battling fire at restaurant in Lincoln Park Officers found that the children had been playing outside and entered the water. Family members pulled the children from the water after hearing the five-year-old call for help. The children and two adult family members were transported to Pulaski Memorial Hospital. The toddler was later transported to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition. WGN is actively following this incident and will update as more information is provided.

Driver slams $300,000 sports car into Portland office building

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The driver of a McLaren 720S — a sports car worth as much as $300,000 — crashed into the side of an office building in Portland, Oregon, at approximately 2:54 a.m. Sunday.Portland Fire and Rescue spokesperson Christine Pezzulo told Nexstar's KOIN that the firefighters who responded to the scene found one car crashed into the facade of a building in the Kerns neighborhood. The driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries. No passengers were said to have been in the car at the time of the crash. WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Monday identified the five Army aviation special operations forces killed when their UH-60 helicopter crashed in the Eastern Mediterranean.The military’s European Command said the helicopter went down over the weekend during an air refueling mission as part of military training.The five service members who died were Chief Warrant Officer 3 Stephen R. CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State Police arrested two individuals following a reported robbery at Boscov's in Clifton Park on Wednesday. A store employee sustained injuries during the incident. When the store's loss prevention officer tried to stop her, Stearns allegedly bit them and hit them with a stolen item.The second suspect, Kolawole Fashuyi, 32, got involved and allegedly hit the employee multiple times. The two tried to flee but were quickly apprehended. Stearns provided police with false identifying information. Officers located a glass smoking device with drug residue in Stearn's possession.
