Hudson angler hooks Mille Lacs Lake northern pike that ties Minnesota catch-and-release record

A Wisconsin angler caught a 46.25-inch northern pike on Mille Lacs Lake that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has certified as a tie with the current catch-and-release state record.Brad Lila, of Hudson, Wis., caught and released the fish Jan. 22.“I set the hook as the line was quickly peeling out,” Lila said in a DNR statement. “I knew it was a very large fish because it peeled out drag and there was no stopping it. After about 10 minutes of fighting the fish, I knew that it might take more than me to land it.”Brad Lila, of Hudson, Wis., caught and released this 46.25-inch northern pike Jan. 22, 2023, while fishing on Mille Lacs Lake. A 24-year-old man has been arrested and faces several charges after leading police in a pursuit that ended with a dramatic crash into the historic Plaza Park fountain in Orange on Monday, authorities announced.  The incident unfolded just after 5 a.m. when an officer with the Orange Police Department observed a motorist in a Hyundai Sonata driving with their headlights off in the 100 block of South Parker Street. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the suspect, identified as Raymond Salazar Felix, fled east at a high rate of speed on Chapman Avenue, police said.  Surveillance video from the City of Orange shows Felix driving straight into the Plaza Park roundabout and colliding with the iconic fountain, causing the Hyundai to flip several times before coming to a stop near the other end of the plaza.  The 24-year-old, who suffered moderate injuries in the crash, was found to be in possession of a ghost gun and a high-capacity magazine.  “Upon further ...

Brentwood police identify man shot by officers

BRENTWOOD – A man suspected of holding a woman against her will Sunday night at a Brentwood apartment complex and shooting at police officers who tried to intervene has been identified as Joshua Smith, 30, of Long Beach, authorities said.At least one officer returned fire, injuring Smith. The woman was also injured, but it was not immediately clear if she was hit by the officer’s gunfire. 5-year-old rescued from fallen tree debris in Pittsburg

(KRON) -- A 5-year-old had to be pulled from debris after a tree fell onto the roof of a learning center in Pittsburg on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. Eastbound 580 reopens after overturned big rigs closed the Richmond bridge Fire Captain Jeff Clark said when fire crews arrived on scene with the Pittsburg Police Department at The Learning Center on Civic Avenue, about 20 children were on the scene.
