8 pounds meth, 2 pounds cocaine seized in Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KRON) -- Officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department seized eight pounds of suspected methamphetamine, two pounds of suspected cocaine and $8,000 while executing a search warrant for a drug investigation on Monday morning, according to SRPD. Additional suspected drugs packaged for sale were also located, police said.The SRPD Narcotics Team began the investigation into the drug trafficking organization in January. Monday morning, the team executed a search warrant at a home on the 2500 block of Kenton Court in Santa Rosa. During the search, police said they found the eight pounds of suspected meth, two pounds of suspected cocaine, cash and more suspected meth packaged for sale in Hernandez's bedroom.Hernandez was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a narcotic for sale.

Tyson to close poultry facilities in Virginia, Arkansas

Tyson Foods is closing two facilities that employ more than 1,600 people in an effort to streamline its U.S. poultry business.The company said Tuesday it plans to close its processing, broiler and hatching operations in Glen Allen, Virginia, and a plant in Van Buren, Arkansas. Both closures are scheduled for May 12.Tyson said the closures will help it better use all available capacity at remaining plants.The Springdale, Arkansas-based company said it will work with its 692 employees in Glen Allen and its 969 employees in Van Buren to apply for open positions at other plants.Tyson has made other efforts to consolidate its operations in recent months. Canadian driver faces murder charges in ramming, 2 killed

TORONTO (AP) — A 38-year-old Canadian man is facing murder charges after allegedly ramming a pickup truck through pedestrians in an eastern Canada town, killing two men and injuring nine people who were walking alongside a road.Police declined to comment on a possible motive for the attack Monday afternoon in the Quebec province town of Amqui, about 350 kilometers (220 miles) northeast of Quebec City. BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — A long-delayed vote in Hungary’s parliament on ratifying the NATO accession bids of Sweden and Finland will likely be postponed again following a proposal from a senior government official. In a letter published Tuesday by Hungarian news website hvg.hu, Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen requested that a parliamentary session scheduled to begin on March 20 — during which lawmakers were expected to vote on the two Nordic countries joining the military alliance — be postponed to a week later. Suspect fires at officers attempting to serve warrant in Northwest Miami-Dade

There was danger on duty for some police officers as they were serving a warrant. Miami-Dade Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) came under fire when they were serving the warrant at a home on Fifth Avenue and 82nd Terrace, Tuesday morning. “There was an individual in the master bedroom that was barricaded inside, and as they were approaching that master bedroom, multiple gunshots were fired from within that bedroom out,” said MDPD Det. Alvaro Zabaleta. According to police, the shots were fired at around 6:30 a.m. by a man at the center of a violent felony investigation. “Not only did he open fire towards our officers, but had a total disregard that he had a 1-year-old inside of that bedroom as well,” Zabaleta said. Shooting in Dania Beach leaves 1 injured; nearby school on lockdown

A shooting that occurred on Tuesday has left one man injured and a nearby elementary school on lockdown. The incident took place at around noon at a duplex located on Northwest Ninth Avenue. The authorities have cordoned off the area and are currently investigating the incident.The Dania Beach Police Department and the Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were at the scene investigating the shooting. In an abundance of caution, the nearby Collins Elementary School was put on lockdown as police searched for the shooter.
