Gasly fire eats into scarce practice time for Azerbaijan GP

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — Pierre Gasly was at risk of missing qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Friday after his car burst into flames, causing a red flag that ate into the little practice time available.Gasly tried to drive back to the pits with flames visible at the rear of the car before parking on the side of the track. Thick black smoke poured from under the engine cover of the Alpine as Gasly watched a group of track marshals douse the fire. They used several fire extinguishers, leaving the car’s cockpit full of foam.It was another setback for Gasly after he collided with teammate Esteban Ocon during the last race in Australia.The incident caused a red flag for about 13 minutes in the hour-long practice session of the F1 weekend. 1 airlifted following wrong-way crash on Florida Turnpike near Hard Rock Stadium

A wrong-way crash on the Florida Turnpike near the Hard Rock Stadium has caused emergency responders to close down the roads in order to airlift a driver involved in the collision. According to Florida Highway Patrol, on Friday morning, a white Chevy Camaro traveled north on the southbound lanes of the highway, near the Southwest 199th Street exit, before it collided with a silver Toyota pickup truck. Live video footage showed the damage to the cars involved; the Chevy was completely demolished while the truck appeared to have stopped right in front of a concrete barrier. Officials said the driver of the Chevy was pinned inside. After he was removed, the man was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center with serious injuries. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. As a result of this incident, both northbound and southbound lanes were closed off so authorities can land a rescue helicopter. The northbound and southbound lanes have since reopened.

The engine of a northbound Tri-Rail train caught fire as it approached the Golden Glades Station in North Miami-Dade. All passengers on board were evacuated safely and unharmed by the flames.The incident occurred on Thursday just after 10 p.m. when Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the blaze and were able to extinguish the fire quickly.A cellphone video captured the burning engine and a firefighter at the scene, highlighting the intensity of the situation.According to a spokesperson from Tri-Rail, the train was the last northbound train of the night. Bacterial outbreak causes 31 infections in a Seattle hospital

(CNN) — A Seattle medical center is reporting 31 confirmed cases of a bacterial infection since October, according to a news release from the Virginia Mason Medical Center. The most recent confirmed case was identified on April 3.“Beginning in October 2022, Virginia Mason Medical Center detected an increase in cases of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria at our downtown campus,” Sydney Bersante, Virginia Mason Medical Center’s interim president said in the statement. “We immediately implemented increased safety measures, notified patients who had tested positive for the bacteria, and promptly provided treatment where necessary.”Bersante added that while the “risk of transmission is extremely low for patients,” the medical center is investigating the source of transmission and is taking precautions to prevent additional cases.Klebsiella is a type of bacteria that lives in the intestines that can lead to illnesses in healthcare settings such ...

(CNN) — Researchers have embarked on an ambitious global initiative to discover and record marine life hidden in the world’s oceans.Ocean Census aims to identify 100,000 unknown species in the next 10 years, allowing scientists to better understand and protect the deep-sea ecosystem.There are huge gaps in our knowledge of the ocean depths. Of the 2.2 million species believed to exist in the Earth’s oceans, only 240,000 have been described by scientists, according to the census.The initiative builds on past projects such as the Census of Marine Life, which concluded in 2010 and identified 6,000 potential new ocean species.New advances in technology include high-resolution underwater imaging, machine learning, and sequencing of DNA contained in seawater.
