China sanctions Reagan library, others over Taiwanese President Tsai’s California trip

Fire at Oakland homeless camp shuts down freeway on-ramp

OAKLAND — Fire crews worked early Friday to put out a fire at a homeless camp that authorities said forced them to close a freeway on-ramp.The fire was in the area of the 27th Street on-ramp to state Highway 24 and eastbound Interstate 80, according to the Oakland Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.Crews responded to it around 6:20 a.m., according to dispatchers.The smoke from the blaze could be seen from the two freeways.It was unclear how big the blaze was or how long it would take to put it out. Lanes reopened after crash on Hwy 84 near Dumbarton Bridge

(KRON) -- The California Highway Patrol reported a crash on westbound Highway 84 at Dumbarton Bridge around 6:13 a.m. in Fremont. The center and left lanes were blocked briefly, according to CHP. They have since reopened as of 7 a.m., according to CHP.Drivers should expect residual delays in the area.

A Utah-based outfit overseen by a former CIA consultant has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars lobbying intelligence and defense agencies, including the CIA and DHS, to adopt its automated lie detection technology, public lobbying disclosures reviewed by The Intercept show. Converus, Inc., boasts on its website that its technology has already been used for job screenings at American law enforcement agencies, corporate compliance and loss prevention in Latin America, and document verification in Ukraine. DENVER (KDVR) -- Renters have a harder time breaking into homeownership in Colorado than most of the country, depending on the city. Both rental costs and homeownership costs in Colorado are some of the nation's most expensive, matching only coastal markets. As of March 2023, the median sales price for a Denver area single family detached home was $620,000, requiring a top-tier income to afford both down payment and monthly mortgage payments. Colorado homes are getting smaller and more expensive Renters have a such a large bridge to cross in much of Colorado that a majority will never be able to buy a home, according to an analysis by moving firm HireAHelper.
