Nickeil Alexander-Walker put together a stunning defensive performance in the playoffs. Can the Wolves keep him around?

Jamal Murray went ballistic in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals Saturday in Denver, lighting Phoenix up for 34 points and nine assists while burying six triples in a Nuggets victory. The point guard scored 20 points in the second half alone, as a Phoenix team many consider to be the title favorite had no ability to slow him down. That performance made Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s defensive showing against Murray in Round 1 all the more impressive.Murray certainly had plenty of signature moments against the Timberwolves, as well. The guard scored 40 points in Game 2, and helped finish off Minnesota with a 35-point showing in Game 5. He has been stuck in a flame-throwing gear throughout the postseason. But it’s worth noting Game 2 was the lone contest Alexander-Walker didn’t start for the Wolves, and much of Murray’s damage throughout the series was done when someone else was defending him.Murray shot just 36% from the field in the series when guarded by Alexander-Walker, per ma...Twins debut new Minnesota-themed celebration in win over Royals

The Brewers have a cheesehead that they don when they hit a home run. The Mariners have a shiny gold trident that their home-run hitters are greeted with upon their return to the dugout. The Angels have a samurai helmet, courtesy of star Shohei Ohtani. And now, the Twins have their own celebration, one most befitting of a team from Minnesota. As Byron Buxton reached the dugout after smashing a three-run home run, part of a seven-run third inning in the Twins’ 8-4 win over the Royals on Sunday afternoon, his teammates eagerly greeted him, new props in hand.Infielder Kyle Farmer held up a fishing vest, which Buxton slipped on. On the front, the vest is decorated with Twins decals. On the back, it reads “Land of 10,000 Rakes.” As he made his way down the line toward the far end of the dugout, starting pitcher Pablo López reeled him in with a toy fishing rod. He then handed the rod to Buxton, who showed off the Twins’ new prop for the camera. While the Twins only broke out their new home c...69-year-old charged in MetroLink train homicide

The guardians are back to saving the world, only this time they’re here to save the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Just when you think you’ve had it with Marvel, fed up by the way the studio churns out the same thing over and over, the guardians come along to spice things up. Like the protagonist (Chris Pratt) who waltzes through life to a joyous soundtrack, the “volumes” dance to the beat of their own drum. As written and directed by James Gunn, these movies feel like they come from a singular mind instead of a corporate entity, and you can actually tell that someone has put their DNA into the mix. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there are real signs of life. For starters, the film’s action sequences are packed to the brim with whimsy. Let the Avengers take on aliens in a bland skyscraper; these guys are here to fight crime in a building made of flesh. But what really makes the difference is the emphasis on character development. Many of these superheroes, including...‘Vampire straw’ confiscated from traveler at Boston airport

OAKLAND – Oakland A’s reliever Trevor May opened up Sunday about the anxiety issues he’s faced this season and at times throughout his career, saying it’s only recently that he’s been better able to recognize symptoms and deal with his mental health struggles in a more positive fashion.May, in his first public comments since he went on the injured list on April 19 for anxiety, said the decision to step away from the team less than two weeks was a necessary one, both for himself and everyone around him.“I think I know enough about myself that if I’m feeling a certain way, I’m going to bring it into this clubhouse with me and that’s the last thing,” I want, May said before the A’s played the Cincinnati Reds in the three-game series finale.“There’s enough on these guys’ plate. They don’t need me being a storm cloud walking around, and I definitely don’t want to have it at home with me. So, it was just in everyone’s...McGlaughlin nabs IndyCar win at Barber over Grosjean

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Scott McLaughlin finally got an opening to surge past Romain Grosjean, took advantage of it and was scarcely challenged the rest of the way to his fourth IndyCar win on Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park. It was the second time this season they’ve battled for a potential win, but this time McLaughlin and Grosjean avoided getting tangled up in the process. McLaughlin, from New Zealand, wound up with Team Penske’s seventh win in 13 races at the permanent road course — and his first since breaking out with three victories last season.“It’s been coming. We’ve been close,” McLaughlin said. Grosjean had been furious with McLaughlin when the two touched heading into a corner at the opening race in St. Petersburg, Florida, both slamming into a tire barrier. McLaughlin drew an avoidable contact penalty. McLaughlin said “there’s no hard feelings” between the two. This time, it was clean racing for the win.Grosjean started on the pole for the secon...Latest news
