NEW YORK — Before kicking off their first Rivalry series of the season on Friday night, the Red Sox announced a slew of roster moves.Throughout the week, Adam Duvall’s return from the injured list was the eagerly-anticipated update; the veteran outfielder was off to a scorching start to the season before fracturing his wrist in mid-April.But while Duvall has, indeed, been reinstated and is in the lineup for Friday night, the announcement included much bigger, bad news: Chris Sale has been transferred from the 15-day to 60-day injured list.The 34-year-old southpaw last pitched on June 1. PITTSBURGH — The freefalling Mets are facing the possibility of being without their best hitter for 3-4 weeks. The extra imaging on Pete Alonso’s left wrist showed a bone bruise and a sprain, forcing the club to place him on the injured list Friday.It’s a huge blow for a team that has lost six straight and done so in brutal fashion. Alonso leads the Mets and MLB with 22 home runs and the lineup is lacking in power outside of Alonso, Francisco Alvarez and Francisco Lindor.The first baseman was hit on the left wrist with a 97 mph fastball from Atlanta Braves’ right-gander Charlie Morton on Saturday night at Truist Park. Celtics forward Grant Williams had successful surgery on his left hand on Friday, the team announced.Williams’ surgery repaired a tear of the radial collateral ligament of the third metacarpo-phalangeal joint on his left hand. The Celtics said the forward is expected to make a full return to basketball activities in 6-8 weeks, which would put him in line to return in late July or early August. He’ll make a full recovery before training camp begins in late September.According to a report Friday from ESPN, Williams suffered the injury in March and played through it as the Celtics advanced to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals.Williams, who also suffered an elbow injury at one point this season, had an underwhelming fourth season despite finishing with career bests of 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 25.9 minutes per game, as he fell out of Joe Mazzulla’s rotation during the second half of the season. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas appeals court on Friday dismissed a billionaire’s defamation lawsuit against Democrat Beto O’Rouke that was brought after O’Rourke criticized a $1 million campaign contribution to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. The ruling by the Third Court of Appeals in Austin comes more than a year after O’Rourke repeatedly made critical remarks about the donation during a failed run for governor, at one point saying that it “looks like a bribe to me.” The contribution came from Kelcy Warren, chairman of pipeline company Energy Transfer, which reported about $2.4 billion in earnings related to the catastrophic February 2021 winter storm that sent natural gas prices soaring in Texas.
