Tropical Storm Hilary began barreling across California on Sunday, with experts forecasting “catastrophic and life-threatening flooding” in the days ahead. As Hilary approached the Golden State on Saturday, Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency, deploying 7,500 first responders — like local firefighters, soldiers from the National Guard, and swift water rescue teams — across the state.It’s the first tropical storm to hit Southern California in 84 years. Click here for updates on this storyPORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV) — The family of a 19-year-old woman who was shot and killed in northwest Portland last week believe she was caught in a crossfire.On Aug. 13 at about 2 a.m., police responded to the Pearl District on a shooting call and found Rylee Hatlen suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite first aid, she died at the scene.Her parents, Ryan and Allegra Hatlen, believe she had nothing to do with the gunfire.“My daughter had her life cut short,” Ryan Hatlen said. “Stupid gun violence. (KRON) -- Hurricane Hilary has been downgraded to a "tropical storm" Sunday morning. However, the storm is playing a factor in many areas in and around Southern California.Although the Hilary is not directly impacting the Bay Area, flights going south are. A number of Southern California-bound flights out of San Francisco International Airport, Oakland International Airport and San José Mineta International Airport have been delayed or canceled. A car was left mangled after following a rollover wreck in South Miami-Dade that left a pedestrian dead and sent the driver to the hospital. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a black Cadillac sedan collided with a pedestrian along U.S. 1. near Southwest 272nd Street., at around 3 a.m., Sunday.Investigators said the impact caused the Cadillac to roll over and crash into the side of a strip mall building, leaving the car destroyed.The pedestrian, a man, died at the scene.First responders cut out the driver from the car, which was propped up against the building.Miami Dade Fire Rescue reported that once the occupant was extricated from the car, they were airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center as a trauma alert.
