The Supreme Court just acted to get rid of decades-long practices at colleges and universities that have been an illegal, unconstitutional, unprincipled means of discriminating against qualified applicants wanting entry as students. Some instead granted admission in accordance with skin color, which happened in this case to be black.Legally, it has done away with equality under the law. As a practical matter, it reduces the role of merit facilitating accomplishments. Emotionally, it has been experienced as a lifetime downfall for highly qualified applicants who arrive in all kinds of skin colors.There’s an ideal behind it all, of course, namely to help lift Black Americans out of the racial discrimination that has constantly encircled them, leaving so very, very many so very, very poor and left out and cursed, surrounded by crime. Five for Fighting’s mastermind John Ondrasik broke both those rules with his two latest singles: “Blood on Our Hands,” about the Afghanistan withdrawal and “Can One Man Save the World?” about Ukraine.“I took no pleasure in writing those songs, for the first time in my life,” he said this week. “And I’d like to say I worked hard on the song about President Zelenskyy, but the fact is that I put no thought at all into it. Man killed by falling tree in East County identified

EL CAJON, Calif. -- A man who died Wednesday while cutting down a tree on his property in the El Cajon area has been identified, authorities said.Gary Maurice Zing, 59, was announced as the deceased, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said on its website.The incident occurred around 11:10 a.m. in the 1900 block of Altozano Drive, per Heartland Fire and Rescue. Here comes another heat wave San Diego Zing was on FaceTime with a family member while cutting tree branches when as he was going down the hill from the tree, a part of the tree fell on him, according to El Cajon police.Authorities were then called to the residence after the victim did not emerge from under the tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.It took crews several hours to "carefully" and "respectfully" remove the man from underneath the tree, fire officials said.

Security Council is to vote Monday on extending aid deliveries from Turkey to Syria’s rebel-held northwest, with a resolution sponsored by Brazil and Switzerland calling for a 12-month extension and a rival Russia resolution limiting a renewal to just six months.The delivery of aid to the area has increased significantly following the devastation caused by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that ravaged southern Turkey and northwestern Syria on Feb. 8.
