AUSTIN (Nexstar) — A Texas Republican senator is proposing a bill that would create a new crime for those who cross the border illegally, authorizing law enforcement to arrest and prosecute anyone who crosses the border, and can do so anywhere in the state. Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury, filed Senate Bill 2424 on Friday, the deadline for state lawmakers to introduce any new legislation.According to a news release from Lt. A seesaw of temperatures and humidity this weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A cold front will be toying with our area through the weekend, blowing through then retreating multiple times. This will lead to big swings in temperatures and humidity through Sunday.The front pushes northward overnight as a warm front, bringing heat and humidity back to the area on Saturday. Some parts of the Hill Country may top 90 degrees with afternoon sun.The front reverses course as a cold front early Sunday morning, leading to a cooler, breezy and more seasonable end to the weekend. This cooler weather will linger through early next week.The next likelihood of rain and thunderstorms comes at the end of next work week. DPS urges Texans not to travel to Mexico amid ongoing violence throughout the country

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is urging Texans to avoid traveling to Mexico during spring break, due to ongoing violence throughout the country, according to a DPS news release.“Drug cartel violence and other criminal activity represent a significant safety threat to anyone who crosses into Mexico right now,” DPS Director Steven McCraw said. “We have a duty to inform the public about safety, travel risks and threats. Based on the volatile nature of cartel activity and the violence we are seeing there; we are urging individuals to avoid travel to Mexico at this time." TEXAS (NEXSTAR) – If you accidentally kill a wild animal with your vehicle in Texas, do you have the right to take it home for dinner?Many states, like California, have certain exceptions about what animals can be picked up off the road and whether drivers are legally protected in doing so. Other states, like Louisiana, have made it illegal to collect roadkill entirely.Texas belongs to the latter camp, having completely outlawed the practice of picking up roadkill.Wildlife Public Information Officer Lerrin Johnson explained when an animal is killed by a vehicle on a roadway, that animal was killed by illegal means and methods and is illegal to possess.“The reasoning behind this regulation is to discourage hunters or other constituents from specifically targeting animals along the roadway,” Johnson said. “Prior to this rule, poachers could claim that their illegal kill was collected on the road as salvaged roadkill. MN senate committee approves $1.9 billion infrastructure package

A Minnesota Senate committee approved a massive, $1.9 billion infrastructure package Friday, sending it to the Senate floor for final votes — even though the DFL majority does not have the Republican votes they need to pass it.The package would finance millions for local road and bridge repairs, sewer and water systems, upgrading college classrooms and improvements to state parks, trails and flood-control structures around the state.The Senate Finance Committee basically approved two bills passed by the House on Monday — a $1.5 billion measure to be paid for by selling general obligation bonds and a $392 million cash appropriation to fund other projects.Senate Capital Investment Committee Chair Sandra Pappas, DFL-St. Paul, said the package reflects an agreement among DFL senators and House members of both parties on state public construction projects for the next two years.But Republican senators have not agreed to the deal and DFL senators need at least seven GOP votes ...

Chief Judge applications are due, what's next?

ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- Applications for New York's Chief Judge are due March 10, 2023. This is round two for the position after Justice Hector LaSalle was ultimately rejected by a Senate floor vote. Those applications must be approved by the Judicial Nomination Commission, which is made up of 12 members. The Commission has 120 days from February 17, to submit a list of seven applicants to the Governor, who have been vetted and interviewed.  Laying out the Chief Judge nomination timeline Vincent Bonventre, Professor at Albany Law School said the Commission has extended the deadline to receive applications which could suggest that they didn’t receive as many as they wanted, "Or, they didn’t receive applications from individuals they really were hoping to receive," he explained. Truck pulled from Hudson River being investigated as stolen vehicle

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Crews were working to pull a pickup truck from the Hudson River Friday, March 10. According to an emailed statement from Assistant Chief Steven M. Barker of the Troy Police Department, it was found near the Ingalls Avenue Boat Launch. Get all of the latest news, weather, sports, and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Chief Barker explains the truck has been recovered and they have no reason to believe it was occupied at the time it entered the water. The state police dive team was brought in to make sure of that. Battlehawks athletic trainer dies at team hotel

DALLAS, TX -- A member of the Battlehawks training staff passed away last night at the team hotel. Ben Siegfried was in his early 20s when he passed away. A cause of death has not yet been released.FOX 2 sports reporter Daniel Esteve says that morning meetings were canceled, but practice continued as scheduled.
