VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis’ big gathering of Catholic bishops and laypeople said Saturday it was “urgent” to guarantee fuller participation of women in church governance positions and called for research on allowing women to be deacons to be released within a year.After a month of closed-door debate, Francis’ meeting on the future of the Catholic Church ended late Saturday with the approval of a 42-page text on a host of issues that will now be considered at a second session next year. None of the proposals is binding, as they are merely offered for Francis to consider.Each paragraph passed with the necessary two-thirds majority, but the ones involving women and priestly celibacy obtained the most “no” votes. (AP) — Edward Robinson ran for 120 yards and a touchdown, Darius Perrantes threw two touchdown passes, and Duquesne beat Sacred Heart 27-0 on Saturday.In posting the shutout, the Dukes allowed just 55 yards in the first half and 179 for the game one week after allowing 35 points in a win over St. Francis. (AP) — Amauri Pesek-Hickson ran for two touchdowns and Northern Iowa beat Illinois State 24-21 on Saturday.Theo Day was 20-of-30 passing for 289 yards with a touchdown to Desmond Hutson and an interception. Pesek-Hickson carried the ball 30 times for all of the Panthers’ 107 positive rushing yards.The Redbirds (4-4, 2-3 Missouri Valley Football Conference) got within three points on Zack Annexstad’s 17-yard TD pass to Cam Grandy with 27 seconds remaining. Police have arrested a man in connection to a violent car crash in Miami that sent three people to the hospital.City of Miami Police units responded to the scene of the incident in the area of Northwest 47th Avenue and Seventh Street, early Saturday morning.According to investigators the driver of a blue Chevrolet Spark was traveling southbound on Northwest 47th Avenue when the driver of blue 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350, traveling westbound on Seventh Avenue, ran a red light and collided into the Spark.Polcie saod the driver of the Mercedes, identified as Osman Edgardo Flores Gonzalez, was speeding and did not have a driver’s license.
